The Appointments Committee of Parliament has announced its schedule for vetting ministerial nominees as it resumes its critical task of assessing individuals nominated by the President for various portfolios. The process will begin on Monday, January 20, and span over a week.
The first day will see the vetting of three prominent Members of Parliament, including Kwame Governs Agbodza, who has been nominated as Minister for Roads and Highways, Haruna Iddrisu for Minister of Education, and Eric Opoku for Minister of Food and Agriculture.
On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the committee will vet Ahmed Ibrahim, nominated for Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey is scheduled for Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, while Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare will appear for the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry.
The following day, January 22, will feature nominees Abla Dzifa Gomashie for Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts; Emelia Arthur for Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture; and George Opare-Addo for Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment.
On Thursday, January 23, the focus shifts to regional ministerial positions. Ali Adolf G. John, John Kwadwo Gyapong, James Gunu, and Mrs. Rita Akosua Awatey will appear before the committee for the Northern, Oti, Volta, and Eastern Regions, respectively.
Friday, January 24, will see Ibrahim Tia, Dr. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and Akamugri Atanga Donatus vetted for the North East, Ashanti, and Upper East Regions, respectively.
The final day of the schedule, Monday, January 27, 2025, will feature nominees for the Ahafo, Savannah, and Greater Accra Regions. Charity Gardiner, Salisu Be-Awuribe Issifu, Esq., and Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, MP, are the nominees slated for vetting on this day.
The vetting process provides an opportunity for the public and lawmakers to assess the nominees’ competence and vision for their respective ministries. The committee has assured the public of a thorough and impartial evaluation of all nominees.
