Inauguration Day schedule for Trump’s 2025 presidential swearing in

Today marks the beginning of Donald Trump’s second term as President of the United States, as he takes the oath of office in an inauguration ceremony. This event officially transfers power from the Biden administration to the Trump administration.

The ceremony is set to begin around 11:30 a.m. ET, with Trump taking the presidential oath of office at noon, in accordance with the 20th Amendment. The inauguration will take place indoors in the Capitol Rotunda due to the cold temperatures in Washington, D.C.

The day’s festivities are planned by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, chaired by Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. The theme of this year’s ceremony is “Our Enduring Democracy: A Constitutional Promise,” and will feature several key events:

  • The musical prelude will be performed by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Combined Choirs and “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band.
  • Senator Klobuchar will call the event to order, followed by an invocation from Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, and the Rev. Franklin Graham.
  • Opera singer Christopher Macchio, known as “America’s Tenor,” will perform Oh, America!
  • Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh will administer the vice-presidential oath to JD Vance, Trump’s vice-presidential pick.
  • Country singer Carrie Underwood, joined by the Armed Forces Chorus and the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club, will perform America the Beautiful.
  • Afterward, Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the presidential oath to Trump.
  • The Naval Academy Glee Club will return to perform The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
  • Trump will then deliver his inaugural address to the nation.
  • The ceremony will conclude with a multi-faith benediction from Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman, Imam Husham Al-Husainy, Pastor Lorenzo Sewell, and Rev. Father Frank Mann, followed by the National Anthem, performed by Macchio.
