33 suspects involved in post-election violence remanded into custody – Ghana Police

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that 33 suspects arrested in connection with post-election violence have been remanded into Police and Prisons custody.

“Out of the total number of suspects arrested, 49 have been processed for court, with 16 granted court bail, while 33 have been remanded into Police and Prisons custody to reappear on later dates,” the Police stated in a release.

The statement added that “123 persons have so far been arrested, with 70 suspects granted Police Inquiry Bail in compliance with the constitutional requirement to process suspects for court within 48 hours.” Additionally, four other suspects arrested within the past 24 hours remain in Police custody and will appear before the court tomorrow.

The Police also addressed concerns regarding the whereabouts of the Efutu National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency 2nd Vice-Chairman, Mr Abraham Ato Anan. “The chairman is in good health, with his family, and in contact with the Police,” the statement clarified, urging the public to “disregard the misinformation and disinformation regarding his whereabouts.”

Reassuring the public of their safety, the Police noted that no major security incidents had been recorded in the past 24 hours.

“We urge the public to continue to go about their normal socio-economic activities as the Police continue to implement stringent security measures to ensure their safety and protect their properties,” the statement concluded.
