The 2023-24 NBA MVP will be announced Wednesday, with finalists including Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Jokic, the favorite for this year’s award, could secure his third MVP in four seasons. With one Finals MVP already, Jokic could enter elite company if he leads the Nuggets to another title, joining legends like Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and LeBron James as players with three regular-season MVPs and two Finals MVPs.
Doncic led the league in scoring with 33.9 points per game and ranked second in assists per game. He joined Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook as the only players to average a 30-point triple-double after the All-Star Break. Winning the MVP would make him the second player in Mavericks history after Dirk Nowitzki in 2006-07.
Gilgeous-Alexander had an impressive season, finishing third in scoring with 30.1 points per game and leading the Thunder to the top seed in the Western Conference. He recorded a league-high 51 30-point games and would be the third MVP for the Thunder since their relocation from Seattle, following Kevin Durant (2013-14) and Westbrook (2016-17).
