Water supply disruption hits Ashaiman, Prampram, and 11 other areas

A burst on a 42-inch transmission pipeline from the Kpong Water Treatment Plant has disrupted water supply to several communities in the Tema region, Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced.

In a statement dated December 2, 2024, Dr. Samuel Ason, the Regional Chief Manager of GWL Tema Region, outlined the affected areas, which include Community 1-12, 25, 26, Tema Newtown, Ashaiman, Prampram, Afienya Mataheko, Sakumono, Batsonaa, Ghetseli, Dawhenya, and Kpone.

“Engineers are working hard to fix the problem, after which supply will be restored immediately. The inconvenience this may cause is deeply regretted,” the statement read.

The disruption has left thousands of residents in these areas without access to water, affecting households, schools, and businesses. GWL has urged residents to conserve water where possible and seek alternative sources until the repairs are completed.

The Kpong Water Treatment Plant serves as a vital water source for the Tema and surrounding regions, and pipeline faults often result in widespread disruptions.

GWL reassured the public of its commitment to resolving the issue swiftly and encouraged customers to monitor its official channels for updates on the restoration process.
