Visually impaired law student evades deferral as Dumelo settles GHC10k outstanding arrears

A visually impaired law student at the Ghana School of Law, Makola, has avoided deferral after John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, intervened to settle their GHC10,400 outstanding fees.

The student, Gabriel Selasie Doe, faced the risk of deferral due to the unpaid amount and had even sold his laptop in a desperate attempt to cover part of the fees.

John Dumelo, sharing the news on X, explained that Gabriel had reached out through a mutual friend to seek assistance. Moved by the situation, Dumelo promptly stepped in to settle the arrears and provide additional funds to help Gabriel recover his laptop.

“Visually impaired law student Gabriel Selasie Doe reached out to me through a friend to help him pay the remainder of his GHC10,400 fees after he had to sell his laptop earlier. By God’s grace, I have fully paid his fees and also money to and get his laptop back,” Dumelo wrote.

Gabriel’s academic journey, already marked by the challenges of living with visual impairment, was further complicated by the financial burden that threatened his education.

Dumelo’s swift action has not only ensured that Gabriel continues his studies uninterrupted but also restored vital resources for his academic success.
