Unrest at Obuasi East as electorates clash with military officers

Violence erupted in the Obuasi East constituency of the Ashanti region during the 2024 elections as electorates clashed with military officers at the Akaporiso polling station.

The confrontation began when a man, identified only as Hakiki, challenged the presence of the soldiers, who had arrived in a pickup vehicle despite earlier assurances from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) that no military personnel would be deployed to the station.

Reports suggest that Hakiki, a Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was beaten severely during the altercation.
