Trump returns to the White House

Donald Trump has declared victory in the U.S. presidential election, marking a return to the White House after narrowly defeating Kamala Harris.

Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd at his Florida headquarters, Trump celebrated what he called “a new golden age for America,” as projections show him on the brink of securing the 270 electoral college votes needed to reclaim the presidency.

Republican victories in key swing states such as Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia have given Trump a decisive lead, with CBS projecting further wins in states like Nevada and Wisconsin. His campaign was buoyed by the presence of mega-donor Elon Musk, who joined Trump as the results unfolded.

Trump addressed his supporters early Wednesday in West Palm Beach, declaring, “This will truly be the golden age of America — that’s what we have to have. This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again.”

Kamala Harris, who had been anticipated to speak at Howard University on election night, cancelled her appearance, with exit polls suggesting lower-than-expected support from female, Black, and Latino voters compared to the turnout for Joe Biden in 2020.

The GOP also appears set to gain a majority in the Senate after picking up seats in West Virginia and Ohio, further bolstering Trump’s comeback. Meanwhile, the race for control of the House remains close.

Early voting saw around 86 million ballots cast, underscoring the intensity of one of the most contentious election cycles in recent memory. Both parties have readied legal teams for any post-election disputes, but the day was marked by overall calm despite bomb hoaxes in several states.
