Supporters believed to be from Alive Chapel International clashed with members of the media today, October 16, outside the courthouse following the arrest of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako.
The couple were taken into custody after their 16-year-old son, Elrad Salifu Amoako, was identified as the driver involved in a tragic car crash that claimed two lives in East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
The group of supporters, protesting the arrest of their overseer, expressed their frustration with the media coverage of the case, leading to tense exchanges outside the courtroom.
The arrest of Bishop Salifu and his wife on October 15 is part of an ongoing investigation into the crash, which occurred on Mensah Wood Street. Preliminary police reports indicate that Elrad, driving a Jaguar SUV with registration number GN 7801-20, collided with a 4×4 Acura driven by Joseph Ackah. The crash set both vehicles ablaze, resulting in the deaths of two 12-year-old girls, Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, who were among the occupants of the Acura.
While three of the passengers in Ackah’s car were rescued, one remains hospitalized. Elrad and his passenger were also pulled from the wreckage and are receiving medical care. The police continue to investigate the incident, with the suspect’s parents being questioned as part of the inquiry.
The Ghana Police Service, led by Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has assured the public of a thorough investigation, while extending their condolences to the grieving families.
