Barcelona’s young defender Pau Cubarsi is “ok” after sustaining a cut that required 10 stitches to his face during Wednesday’s 5-2 Champions League victory over Red Star Belgrade.
The 17-year-old was forced off in the 67th minute after Red Star’s Uros Spajic accidentally caught him with his studs while he cleared a corner with a header.
Cubarsi, who debuted for Barcelona at just 16, received medical attention on the field and left with a bloodied face and an open wound.
Manager Hansi Flick reassured fans after the game, saying, “He needed stitches, but he’s fine.” Barcelona later shared a photo of Cubarsi smiling, captioned, “I’m OK.”
