Statue in honour of Akufo-Addo pulled down

The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi has been completely destroyed by unidentified individuals.

A police source disclosed that they responded promptly to information received about the incident. “By the time we got there, the damage had already been done,” the source confirmed.

The statue was toppled and shattered, with significant damage from the head down to the knee. The incident reportedly took place around 1:30 am on January 13, 2025.

Initially unveiled on November 6, 2024, to honor the former president, the statue had previously undergone repairs in December 2024 following damage to the leg. A hole at the back of the left leg had raised speculations among residents, some suggesting deliberate vandalism while others cited structural issues.

Eyewitnesses noted that repairs were performed on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, around 4:00 pm by two men and a woman, with a police officer providing security by 6:00 pm.
