Former Black Stars player Samuel Inkoom has been granted bail of GH¢50,000 with one surety as his fraud case continues in the Accra Circuit Court.
The case, presided over by Mr. Isaac Addo, has been adjourned to December 30, 2024.
Inkoom, 34, is accused of defrauding a student, Benjamin Opare Addo, by taking $3,500 under the pretense of securing a visa to the Netherlands but failing to deliver. According to the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, Inkoom claimed to be the owner of S. Inkoom Travel and Tour Company and convinced Addo between September and November 2023 to pay GH¢32,100 in instalments for the visa.
The court heard that despite receiving the payment, Inkoom did not fulfill his promise. After several unsuccessful attempts to recover the money or obtain the visa, Addo reported the matter to the police.
Inkoom was arrested on January 11, 2024, and admitted to the offence, refunding GH¢7,000 but leaving an outstanding balance of GH¢25,100.
In his defence, Inkoom’s lawyer argued for bail, noting the partial refund and efforts to repay the remaining amount. The lawyer also emphasized Inkoom’s reputation and commitment to appearing in court.
