The 16-year-old son of Bishop Salifu Amoako, Founder of Alive Chapel International, has been found guilty of manslaughter for the deaths of two minors in an accident on October 12 at East Legon.
The court sentenced him to six months at the Senior Correctional Center and ordered his parents to pay fines and damages amounting to GHC20,000.
The tragic incident occurred on Mensah Wood Street when the teenager, driving a Jaguar SUV without a license, collided with an Acura 4×4, leading to the deaths of Justine Mary-Anne Enyonam Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh.
After initially pleading not guilty to charges of manslaughter, negligently causing harm, dangerous driving, and driving without a license, the minor later changed his plea to guilty, resulting in his conviction.
In addition to his sentence, the teenager has been directed to report to probation officers every two weeks and sign an undertaking to refrain from driving until he turns 18.
The court also penalized his parents, Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, for their negligence in allowing their underage son to drive. They were fined 500 penalty units each (equivalent to GHC6,000) and ordered to pay for damages, including a light pole valued at GHC8,000, bringing the total financial penalty to GHC20,000.
Prior to the sentencing, the teenager had been remanded and subjected to strict bail conditions, including surrendering his Ghanaian and US passports and a ban on international travel.
