Examination Malpractices and Sanctions
Following thorough investigations into various irregularities during the examination, the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee at its 35th meeting, held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, approved the cancellation of results for several candidates.
The Council took the following actions:
– Cancellation of Subject Results: 377 school candidates and 3 private candidates had their subject results cancelled for bringing foreign materials into the exam hall or colluding with other candidates.
– Cancellation of Entire Results: The entire results of 41 school candidates and 1 private candidate were cancelled due to serious infractions during the exam process.
– Withholding of Entire Results: WAEC has withheld the entire results of 33 school candidates and 3 private candidates, pending the outcome of further investigations into suspected malpractices.
In addition, the Council has withheld the subject results of candidates from 149 schools across the country. These results will either be cancelled or released based on the findings of ongoing investigations.
WAEC has cautioned the public to remain vigilant against fraudsters who claim to offer result upgrades for a fee. The Council reiterated that its results are secured and can be verified for authenticity.
The Council extended its appreciation to all stakeholders who played a role in the successful conduct of the 2024 BECE. Special acknowledgment was given to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, the Security Agencies, Heads of Schools, Supervisors, Invigilators, Examiners, and others who contributed to the examination process.
Candidates and schools are advised to access the results via the Council’s website at www.waecgh.org, while the results of school candidates will also be dispatched to their respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education.
The Council’s stringent actions underscore its commitment to maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s education system, as the release of results marks the next phase in the academic journey of thousands of students across the country.
