Price of DSTV packages to surge by over 15% effective April 1

Subscribers of DStv across Africa will experience a price increase of over 15% on their monthly subscription fees, effective April 1, 2025.

The adjustment comes as the pay-TV provider cites rising consumer inflation and economic challenges as key factors influencing the decision.

DStv has assured customers that it remains committed to delivering premium entertainment, with a strong focus on local content as a key differentiator. Popular channels such as Akwaaba Magic and Africa Magic will continue to offer top-quality entertainment, ensuring that subscribers receive value despite the price hike.

According to the new pricing structure, in Ghana, the cost of the premium package will rise from GHC750 to GHC865, representing a 15.33% increase. The Compact Plus package will move from GHC495 to GHC570, marking a 15.15% jump, while the Compact package will increase from GHC330 to GHC380, also reflecting a 15.15% rise. The Family package will now cost GHC190, up from GHC165, indicating a 15.15% increase, whereas the Access package will go up by 16.47%, from GHC85 to GHC99.

Subscribers to the DStv Lite package will experience the highest percentage surge of 18.00%, moving from GHC50 to GHC59. Meanwhile, the DStv-Asia Standalone package will climb by 14.75%, from GHC305 to GHC350. The Great Wall Add-on will increase from GHC70 to GHC80, marking a 14.29% rise.

For those subscribed to the French content add-ons, the French Add-on will now cost GHC250, up from GHC215 (16.28% increase), while the French Plus Add-on will rise from GHC435 to GHC500, reflecting a 14.94% increase. The French Touch Add-on will cost GHC150, up from GHC130, marking a 15.38% increase.

The cost of premium packages with add-ons has also been adjusted. Premium with Asia Add-on will increase from GHC1,055 to GHC1,215 (15.17% increase), while Premium with French Add-on will now cost GHC1,365, up from GHC1,185 (15.19% increase). The HD-PVR service will rise by 15.00%, from GHC100 to GHC115.

DStv maintains that despite the price adjustments, it is focused on customer satisfaction and will continue to offer engaging and diverse content. The company emphasizes its role as Africa’s most-loved storyteller and assures subscribers that it is dedicated to meeting their entertainment needs while navigating economic realities.

This price adjustment comes six months after their last increase in 2024 and earlier in the year. These yet-to-be-implemented adjustments have led to significant backlash from subscribers, and other stakeholders including, public policy think tank CUTS International.

CUTS International called on DSTV to provide consumers with adequate notice before making any changes to subscription fees, and criticized the company for frequently giving short notices to its subscribers in Ghana.
