President Mahama completes ministerial appointments with four new deputy ministers, bringing total to 60

President John Dramani Mahama has finalized his list of ministerial appointments with the nomination of four additional deputy ministers, bringing the total number of ministers and deputies in his administration to 60.

This includes 46 ministers (regional, and ministers of state) and 14 deputy ministers.

The President made the announcement in accordance with Articles 78(1) and 79(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which empower him to appoint ministers and deputy ministers with the prior approval of Parliament.

The four new deputy ministerial nominees are:

  • Dorcas Toffey – Ministry of Transport

  • James Gyakye Quayson – Ministry of Foreign Affairs

  • Mohammed Adam Sukparu – Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations

  • Grace Ayensu-Danquah – Ministry of Health

These nominees have been submitted to Parliament through the Speaker for vetting by the Appointments Committee. Parliament is expected to announce a schedule for the vetting in the coming days.

This follows the earlier approval and swearing-in of 55 ministers and deputies in March 2025, who underwent vetting by the same committee.

The ministerial portfolios are 60; however, the individuals appointed are 59, as Muntaka Mubarak has been assigned two ministerial positions.
