Police manhunt 2 for false publication on whereabout of Salifu’s son in East Legon accident case

The Ghana Police Service has initiated a manhunt for two individuals allegedly responsible for circulating false information on social media about the whereabouts of the 16-year-old son of Bishop Salifu Amoako, Founder of Alive Chapel International, the suspect driver in the East Legon accident case.

Contrary to claims that the suspect is not being held at the Osu Correctional Centre as ordered by the Court, police confirm that the minor has been in custody at the facility since the court’s directive on November 1, 2024.

The police have identified two social media accounts associated with the false reports: a TikTok user with the handle “prisywanlov1” and a Facebook user under “Empress Papa A-Amigos.” Investigations are underway to locate the individuals behind these accounts, as they could face charges under Section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), for the publication of false news.

“We find it deeply unfortunate that a tragic incident resulting in the loss of two beautiful souls is being exploited by some individuals in an unGhanaian manner to draw attention to themselves. We urge the public to refrain from such actions and allow the families to grieve in peace,” the police statement added.

Empress, who claims to be a social worker at the Boys Remand Home, posted on social media, “Ghana Police Service, come clear on this. I am a state-trained social worker since 1989 and have worked at the Boys Remand Home since 1990. It is the only lawful child custody centre in Accra. Children are only committed to correctional centres when the Juvenile Court makes a decision on the case. For now, he is supposed to be at the Boys Remand Home by law. When I worked there, we kept children charged with serious offences and I handled them.”

She added, “So, where exactly is Salifu’s son? When I checked today, the doors of the Remand Home were open, and no boy has been received. I am very interested in this case. We will be watching closely; money is not everything.”

This development stems from the tragic incident, which resulted in the deaths of two victims, Justine Mary-Anne Enyonam Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, on October 12, 2024, following a collision between a Jaguar SUV driven by the suspect and a 4×4 Acura.

During the November 1 court hearing, conditions for the suspect’s remand were established, including the surrender of his Ghanaian and U.S. passports by November 4. Additionally, the court ordered a medical examination for the minor at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on November 4, with provision for urgent medical care at the Police Hospital if needed during his remand.

The suspect’s parents, Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako have been charged for allegedly allowing their underage son to drive. The suspect’s family has publicly apologized to the victims’ families.
