The Ghana Police Service has arrested Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, the parents of 16-year-old Elrad Salifu Amoako, the suspect driver involved in a fatal car crash at East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
The arrest, made on Monday, October 15, 2024, is part of an ongoing investigation into the tragic incident that claimed two lives.
Preliminary investigations reveal that on October 12, Elrad Salifu Amoako was behind the wheel of a Jaguar SUV with registration number GN 7801-20, carrying one other passenger.
The vehicle collided with a 4×4 Acura, driven by Joseph Ackah and registered GR 2542-23, on Mensah Wood Street. Ackah’s car had four other occupants. The crash ignited both vehicles, which were completely destroyed by the flames.

Of the five occupants in the Acura, three were rescued, while two young girls, identified as Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, both aged 12, tragically lost their lives. Two of the rescued victims sustained minor injuries, were treated, and discharged. However, one of the survivors remains hospitalized and is receiving ongoing treatment.
Elrad Salifu Amoako and his passenger were also pulled from the wreckage and are currently in hospital under medical care.
The police have taken the parents of the suspect driver, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, into custody, where they are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
In response to the tragedy, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, led a delegation from the Police Management Board to visit the grieving families on October 15, 2024. The IGP also visited the hospital to check on the injured survivors.
The Ghana Police Service has reassured the public that a thorough investigation is being conducted to bring closure to the affected families, while extending their sympathies and prayers during this difficult time.
