NPP, NDC supporters clash over fertilizer distribution; one dead and others injured

One person has died, and two others sustained injuries following violent clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the distribution of fertilizers in Akomadan, Offinso North District.

The incident occurred on Monday morning when tensions escalated after NDC supporters demanded access to fertilizers that were being distributed by newly elected NPP Member of Parliament, Fred Gyei Asamoah.

Reports indicate the MP had promised the fertilizers to constituents as part of his post-election commitment. However, according to eyewitness accounts, NDC supporters argued the fertilizers were meant for all farmers, not just NPP members, leading to a heated confrontation that turned violent.

Tragically, an NDC supporter lost his life during the altercation, while two others sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment.

The clashes have left the community on edge, prompting security agencies to intervene and restore calm. Residents are calling on political leaders to address the situation and ensure equitable distribution of resources to prevent further violence.
