Nigerian legislator reportedly assaults Bolt driver

Nigerian legislator Hon. Alexander Ikwegh, who represents the Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State, is facing serious allegations after reportedly assaulting a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, during a delivery dispute in Abuja.

The incident, which took place on October 27, 2024, at a residence on Zamfara Crescent in Maitama, escalated when an argument arose over the delivery method. Hon. Ikwegh allegedly slapped Mr. Abuwatseya and, in response to the driver’s protest, reportedly said, “Go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,” reflecting what the FCT Police Command described as a disregard for police authority.

Currently, Hon. Ikwegh is being questioned at the Maitama Police Station. The FCT’s Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has ordered a full investigation to ensure a fair and thorough review of the incident, with assurances that appropriate legal action will be taken if necessary.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has issued a public warning, advising against using the office or name of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intimidate individuals, emphasizing that such behavior undermines the impartiality and integrity that the IGP’s office upholds.
