A disturbing video circulating on social media has sparked outrage after capturing a group of male students from Adanwomase Senior High School engaging in inappropriate behavior toward female students during the 2025 Ashanti Regional Inter-School and College Athletics Super Zonals.
The incident, which occurred at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, shows the male students groping female spectators as they attempted to move through the stands. In the footage, shared widely on the X platform, the affected girls expressed their discomfort and displeasure through gestures, while the male students laughed and continued their actions.
The video has drawn widespread condemnation, with many calling for disciplinary action against the students involved. Critics have described the behavior as unacceptable and a violation of the dignity of the victims.
In Ghana sexual assaults of any form including rape, defilement, unnatural carnal knowledge and harassment are regarded as serious offences (i.e. first degree felony), that are liable on conviction to a term of imprisonment not less than five years and not more than 25 years (Criminal Offences Act 1960, Act 29; Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act 1960, Act 30).
The 2025 Ashanti Regional Inter-School and College Athletics Super Zonals took place on February 27 and 28 in Kumasi, featuring 44 senior high schools from across the Ashanti Region. A total of 32 mixed schools and 12 single-sex schools participated, with 16 of the mixed schools qualifying for both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.
Authorities are being urged to take swift action to address the misconduct and reinforce the need for discipline and respect in school sports competitions.
