The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Salisu Mustapha, the owner of three dogs reportedly responsible for the tragic mauling death of a security man at Pinnock Estate, Ilasan, Lekki, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
The dogs have been confiscated pending the outcome of a discreet investigation into the fatal incident, according to Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, assured residents of the estate and the people of Lagos that the ongoing investigation would be thoroughly conducted and justice would be served.
“We are committed to ensuring that this matter is brought to a conclusive end, and justice will be served as appropriate,” CP Ishola stated.

There has been widespread concern among local residents. However, some X users are disbelieving that the dogs mauled the security man, as reported. They noted that the dogs do not appear vicious in the video circulating and do not have any blood stains to suggest an attack.
However, SP Benjamin Hundeyin makes comments suggesting otherwise. “Well, I do not want to post gory pictures of the bloodied bite marks and tears on the victim’s body from head to toe. In any case, investigation is ongoing,” he wrote in response to those who jumped to the defence of the dogs.

Meanwhile, SP Benjamin Hundeyin has indicated that the dogs are in good condition and are not being cruelly treated. The dogs had to be taken into protective custody pending the conclusion of investigations “as people around were bent on killing them”, the SP revealed.
They are getting the best treatment. We do not condone cruelty to animals.
These were the dogs after they arrived at the Command headquarters before our K-9 unit came to take them into better custody. https://t.co/j5IPWmBSZO pic.twitter.com/oGtYX8tKrW
