President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has appointed Kokui Selormey to serve on the Governing Board of the Ghana Creative Arts Agency as a Member.
Kokui Selormey has over the years carved a niche as a creative arts professional and seasoned media practitioner. As a leading television and radio presenter for platforms such as Viasat 1 TV, Citi FM and Citi TV (now Channel 1 TV), Kokui is known for her dexterity.
As a co-founder and Executive Director of The Band Kokui Foundation, an NGO, Kokui sees to music education outreach and social impact through creative arts. She has a passion for arts education and has taught vocal music to students of varying ages, levels, and musical backgrounds.
She served as an adjudicator for the 2022 African Choral and Gospel Championship held in Kigali, Rwanda, and as lead vocal coach for the globally renowned Harmonious Chorale during the 2023 Choral Events Music Festival in Provence, France.
Her musical projects include Nubian Noel, an album of popular Christmas songs with the late, legendary South African musician Hugh Masekela and an annual concert bearing the same name.
Kokui has had the privilege of steering conferences, seminars, workshops and other gatherings for entities including the Ghana Stock Exchange, GIZ, World University Service of Canada, British High Commission, Ecobank, French Embassy, Nestlé Ghana Ltd, Unilever Ghana, Access Bank, UMB, Ministry of Finance, Tech in Ghana Conference, Ghana Pharmacy Council, Ministry of Communications, Ghana Export Promotion Authority, National Youth Authority, Ministry for Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Ghana Standards Authority, and the Centre for Pharmaceutical Advancement and Training, as a professional event consultant.
She has also played a consultancy role for corporations such as IT Consortium, embarking on visits to France, Germany, Spain, and Belgium to engage the Ghanaian Diaspora community and promote the innovative, indigenous crowdfunding and group contribution app, Chango.
Kokui, who is a mother of four children, is determined to give back to society and help the vulnerable in society. She has organised and featured in several concerts in Accra to support various charitable entities, including the Citi FM Easter Orphan Fund, the AVA Foundation for Street Children, the St. Joseph’s Basic School, and the Infanta Malaria Foundation, in their goal of acquiring a mobile clinic to be used in rural areas of Ghana.
Kokui attended the Accra Ridge Church School and Holy Child Secondary School in Cape Coast. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Theatre from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and a Masters degree in Music from the New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts. She is also a member of the Executive Women Network (EWN) and Alliance for Women in Media (AWMA).
