Haruna Iddrisu heads to Education Ministry, NDC’s Pablo to Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment

President John Dramani Mahama has announced another set of ministerial appointees, naming Haruna Iddrisu as Minister for Education and George Opare Addo, popularly known as Pablo, as the head of the newly established Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.

This move is part of his broader strategy to strengthen key sectors for national progress.

Haruna Iddrisu, a former Minority Leader and respected lawmaker, will be responsible for overseeing education reforms and ensuring broader access to quality learning across the country. His leadership is expected to bring renewed focus on policy improvements and infrastructural support within the sector.

George Opare Addo, National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will head the new Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, created to address unemployment and foster innovation among young Ghanaians. The ministry is set to focus on targeted programs aimed at equipping the youth with essential skills for national development.

Governs Kwame Agbodza has been nominated for the Roads and Highways Ministry, a critical portfolio for national infrastructure advancement. His responsibilities will include enhancing road networks to boost connectivity and support economic activities nationwide.

In the agricultural sector, Eric Opoku has been named Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture. With his background in rural development, he is expected to drive policies that support farmers, improve food security, and expand agricultural productivity.

Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare has been appointed to lead the Ministry for Trade and Agribusiness, where her focus will be on strengthening Ghana’s trade partnerships and promoting agribusiness as a cornerstone for economic growth. Ahmed Ibrahim has been tapped to oversee the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, while Emelia Arthur has been nominated as Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, tasked with driving sustainable growth in the fisheries sector.

President Mahama has also presented a list of 13 regional ministerial nominees to Parliament, expanding on his earlier submission of 10 names. The newest additions include Wilbert Petty Brentum for Western North Region, Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere for Central Region, and Joseph Nelson for Western Region. The initial nominees presented were Ali Adolf John (Northern Region), John Kwadwo Gyapong (Oti Region), James Gunu (Volta Region), Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey (Eastern Region), Ibrahim Tia (North-East Region), Dr. Frank Amoakohene (Ashanti Region), Akamugri Donatus Atanga (Upper East Region), Charity Gardiner (Ahafo Region), Salisu Be-Awuribe (Savannah Region), and Linda Ocloo, MP (Greater Accra Region).
