A woman, referred to as Jane Roe, has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court accusing country singer Garth Brooks of raping her in a Los Angeles hotel in 2019.
The alleged assault occurred when Jane Roe traveled with Brooks from Nashville to Los Angeles for a Grammy Awards tribute, where they were alone on his private jet and shared a single hotel suite.
According to the lawsuit, Brooks appeared naked in the bedroom doorway and raped her, then acted as if nothing had happened, expecting her to do his hair and makeup immediately.
The lawsuit also claims Brooks exposed himself to Jane Roe at his home, grabbed her hands, and placed them on his genitals earlier in 2019. Additionally, she alleges Brooks sent explicit text messages, discussed sexual fantasies, and forced her to continue working for him despite financial hardship, which he was aware of and took advantage of.
Brooks strongly denies the allegations, calling them “wholly untrue”.
In a statement, he said, “For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars… It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face.”
Brooks filed a preemptive lawsuit in federal court in Mississippi last month, seeking protection from “intentional infliction of emotional distress, defamation, and false light invasion of privacy.”
Jane Roe had worked for Brooks’ wife, Trisha Yearwood, since 1999 and began working for Brooks in 2017. Brooks married Yearwood in 2005. There has been no comment from Yearwood or her representative regarding the allegations. Brooks’ representative also hasn’t responded to inquiries about whether the allegations were reported to the police.
