The University of Ghana, through its Public Affairs Directorate, has issued an important notice to students in the Department of Computer Science following concerns over a decline in academic performance.
According to the notice, a recent investigation by the Academic Affairs office revealed that a significant factor contributing to the poor results of students in the department stems from compatibility issues between software and devices used in the course.
The investigation found that most of the software and applications required for the Computer Science program are designed for Apple (iOS) devices. As a result, students using Android devices have encountered difficulties using these applications, which has negatively impacted their performance.
To address this issue and ensure smooth academic progress, the university has outlined specific device requirements for students. Parents and students pursuing a BSc in Information Technology are encouraged to secure the necessary Apple devices before the commencement of the next academic semester.
The required device specifications include:
- Apple iPhones: Devices running iOS 18 and above, with models such as the iPhone 11 or later recommended.
- Laptops: All students are advised to ensure they have laptops with at least 8GB of RAM and good graphics capabilities to handle the software applications effectively.
The notice further emphasizes that all students enrolled in the program should be aware of their course commitments and must be prepared to acquire the necessary technology to succeed academically.
