Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, the controversial figure once known as a traditional priestess and now a self-styled evangelist, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by an Accra Circuit Court.
Known popularly as Nana Agradaa or Evangelist Mama Pat, she was convicted on charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence.
Her conviction stems from a 2022 incident in which she lured unsuspecting members of her congregation with claims of possessing spiritual powers to multiply money.
Victims were reportedly duped during a night vigil at her church, the Godsway International Heaven Church in Weija, Accra. Agradaa had initially pleaded guilty to the charges, including fraudulent advertising and obtaining money under false pretences. She spent two weeks in remand before securing bail of GH₵150,000, with one of the three sureties requiring justification.
The court handed down the sentence after confirming that she was not pregnant, a claim that had temporarily delayed proceedings.
In a separate legal battle, gospel musician Gifty Oppong Adorye, popularly known in the entertainment industry as Empress Gifty, has taken legal action against Agradaa for defamation. The suit follows a video in which Agradaa allegedly made several damaging remarks about Empress Gifty and her husband, politician Hopeson Adorye.
According to Empress Gifty, the defamatory statements—widely circulated by bloggers—have severely impacted her personal life and career. Her children have faced humiliation in school, and an international trip scheduled for August is reportedly at risk due to the controversy.
The suit highlights several offensive claims allegedly made by Agradaa, including accusations that:
-
Empress Gifty engages in promiscuity and prostitution.
-
She participates in bestial acts to finance her marriage.
-
She is unfaithful, engaging in extramarital affairs with pastors.
-
She allegedly has sexual relations with pastors before performing at their church events.
-
She is mentally deficient.
Empress Gifty is seeking GH₵20 million in damages for slander and is asking the court to issue a perpetual injunction against Agradaa and her affiliates to prevent any further publication of similar defamatory content.
