The Electoral Commission of Ghana, in a post on X, reported that “there has been no report of violence at polling stations.”
However, there are several violent incidents reported so far, indicating that the 2024 polls is not peaceful as earlier reported.
The Ghana Police Service, has this afternoon, arrested four persons namely, Majid Issah, Fodi Issiage Kamara, Yakubu Simalia and Alhaji Bashiru Mohamed, in connection with a shooting incident at Nyankpala in the Northern Region.
The shooting incident, which was reported at a time when the millions of Ghanaians are voting today, has led to the death of one person and the injury of another.
Per reports, there was a clash between members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The injured victim is currently receiving medical care, while the body of the deceased is taken to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The suspects are currently in custody and assisting investigation, the Police said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service is on a manhunt for suspect Mujaheed Suraj, alias Mims, who allegedly shot and injured one person in the leg at the Awutu Senya East Constituency, in the Central Region.
The suspect absconded from the scene leaving behind his vehicle which is currently at the Police Station. Police intelligence-led operation is underway to get the suspect arrested to face the full rigour of the law, and we want the to assure the public that we will surely get him.
