Broken seal on bag containing ballot papers to Nkawkaw due to packing, unpacking of bags – Police

The Ghana Police Service has attributed the breaking of a seal on a bag of ballot papers meant for Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region to handling during packing and unpacking processes.

The incident, which raised concerns about the integrity of electoral materials, was discovered on Friday during the distribution of ballot papers from the Eastern Regional Police Command to various districts.

In a statement, the Police confirmed that the broken seal was retrieved, and the contents of the bag were inspected in the presence of the Electoral Commission (EC) and political party representatives. The inspection confirmed that the materials were intact.

“It has been established that this occurred as a result of the packing and unpacking of the bags,” the Police stated, assuring the public that the issue has been fully resolved.

The Electoral Commission reiterated its earlier assurance that seals provided by the Commission and political parties are crucial for ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.

Authorities have emphasized their commitment to safeguarding the credibility of election materials ahead of the polls.
