Assemblyman for Oguaa electrocuted in attempt to fix streetlight

George Agyei Frempong, the Assemblyman for the Oguaa electoral area in New Juaben South municipality, Eastern Region, died on Saturday afternoon after being electrocuted while fixing a streetlight.

The tragic incident occurred when Frempong, who was in his late thirties and not a trained electrician, suffered a severe shock and fell from the electricity pole.

Bystanders rushed him to the Eastern Regional Hospital, but he passed away shortly after. Agyei Frempong, a carpenter by trade, was elected as the Assemblyman for the Oguaa electoral area in the last district assembly elections.

Street lighting is a crucial part of infrastructure in Ghana, enhancing road safety, reducing crime, and improving the overall quality of life in cities and towns.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is primarily responsible for overseeing the deployment and maintenance of street lighting systems across the country.
