Armed Police attempt to forcefully enter Metro TV studio, clash with Randy Abbey

A tense standoff occurred earlier this morning at Metro TV’s Accra headquarters as a group of armed police officers, along with several unidentified individuals, attempted to break into the studio of the popular Good Morning Ghana show.

The police confrontation led to a physical clash with the station’s security staff, who tried to prevent the intrusion but sustained injuries in the process. The wounded personnel are receiving medical care.

In a viral video circulating online, Randy Abbey, the host of Good Morning Ghana, is seen confronting the officers, visibly unsettled, questioning the legitimacy of their actions and the reason for their sudden presence at the station.

In subsequent videos, Randy Abbey, recounted the manner in which some policemen ambushed him and sought to seize his vehicle at the car park of the media house yesterday.

Mr Abbey noted that the officers indicated that they had secured a court order against Metro TV, hence their actions.

The incident has raised alarm over press freedom in Ghana, especially as the country approaches its upcoming elections in just 10 days.
