In a tragic incident fueled by jealousy, a 23-year-old Argentinian man, Mariano Grinspun, was fatally attacked by his girlfriend, Natacha Palavecino, after he greeted a former schoolmate on the street.
The shocking event unfolded on October 21 in González Catán, Buenos Aires province, when an innocent interaction led to an explosive and fatal response from Palavecino.
The incident occurred while Grinspun and Palavecino were walking together when they encountered a woman identified only as LC, who greeted Mariano and asked about his well-being. Despite the benign nature of the exchange, Palavecino’s jealousy turned violent. She drew a hidden knife, first attacking the woman who greeted him, slashing her across the armpit in a sudden fit of rage.
The situation quickly escalated as LC, though injured, managed to defend herself and block a second attempted strike. Fortunately, a bystander intervened and managed to pull Palavecino away from her initial target, preventing further harm to LC. However, Palavecino’s fury then shifted entirely toward Grinspun, whom she proceeded to stab in the chest.
Grinspun’s final moments were captured on surveillance footage, showing the couple in a prolonged argument during which he collapsed multiple times. Eventually, he was too weak to stand, and Palavecino continued to assault him physically, hitting him as he lay defenseless. Nearby witnesses called for emergency services, but tragically, their efforts came too late to save Grinspun.
Subsequent investigations have revealed that Palavecino had a violent history, including a 2021 conviction for stabbing a previous boyfriend, for which she served a year in prison. Mariano himself had previously filed a complaint against her for threats and physical violence, even securing a restraining order last July. Nonetheless, he chose to reconcile with her after the order expired, a decision that ultimately ended in tragedy.
Now, Palavecino faces a lengthy prison sentence for the murder of her boyfriend and the attempted murder of the woman who simply greeted him.
