President Nana Akufo-Addo has invited President-elect John Dramani Mahama to a meeting on Wednesday, December 11, at Jubilee House to initiate the formal transition of power.
This follows the Electoral Commission’s official declaration of the 2024 presidential election results, which saw John Dramani Mahama emerge victorious.
In a press briefing on Monday, the Commission revealed that Mahama garnered 6,328,397 votes (56.55%) while Bawumia polled 4,657,304 (41.61%).
President Akufo-Addo thence in a statement issued on December 9, congratulated Mahama on his decisive victory and expressed his commitment to ensuring a smooth and seamless transfer of power.
The President reaffirmed his dedication to good governance and a peaceful transition, highlighting that such collaboration will further strengthen Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
“I look forward to working with the President-elect and his team to realise this goal,” President Akufo-Addo stated, underscoring the importance of unity and cooperation to consolidate Ghana’s democracy and the rule of law.
President Akufo-Addo also commended the Electoral Commission and the Ghanaian people for conducting a credible election, reflecting the enduring strength of the country’s democratic institutions.
The meeting on December 11 will mark the first official step in the transition process, paving the way for the peaceful handover of power on January 7, 2025.
