Akufo-Addo gets the ‘death stare’ at Akyempimhene’s funeral; social media users react

President Nana Akufo-Addo received an intense “death stare” from a young man during the funeral rites of Akyempimhene Oheneba Adusei Poku in Kumasi on November 18.

The man’s piercing gaze, captured on video, has since gone viral, sparking reactions on social media.

The footage shows the young man maintaining an unwavering, intense look at the President as he walked past, only averting his gaze after an unknown individual took his attention. The reason behind the stare remains unclear, but it has left many Ghanaians speculating about its meaning.

Social media erupted with commentary, with some users expressing concern over security protocols at the event. “The security protocol here is very poor,” one user noted. Others joked about the man’s demeanor, with comments such as, “He get aaa he go knock Addo Dee,” and “Why was he looking at him like that?”

The funeral drew a host of dignitaries, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor, government officials, and business mogul Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar.

The incident has coincided with growing public frustration over Ghana’s economic challenges under Akufo-Addo’s leadership. Citizens have criticized the rising cost of living, high inflation, mounting public debt, and unmet development promises. For some, the young man’s intense expression has come to symbolize the discontent of many Ghanaians.
