Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing ambulance procurement trial, has testified that he met with Attorney-General Godfred Dame to address what he perceived as the arbitrary and unjust use of prosecutorial powers against innocent Ghanaians.
During court proceedings on Thursday, June 20, Jakpa explained that his intention in meeting with Dame was to urge him to stop abusing his powers capriciously and adopt a more equitable approach.
Jakpa stated that the meeting took place at the residence of Supreme Court Judge Justice Yonny Kulendi, who is his cousin, as Dame felt comfortable discussing the matter in this familiar setting.
The businessman defended his decision to seek a meeting with the Attorney-General, expressing his belief that many innocent Ghanaians were being unfairly targeted.
Jakpa also addressed allegations that the WhatsApp messages submitted as evidence had been tampered with, claiming that the content was altered to misrepresent his communications.
The court had previously admitted 68 WhatsApp messages exchanged between Jakpa and the Attorney-General. Presiding judge Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe noted that the court reserves the right to determine the weight of this evidence.
The trial continues as the court considers the testimony and evidence presented.
