Enzo Fernandez will miss the remainder of Chelsea’s season after undergoing surgery for a groin issue, as confirmed by the Premier League club in a recent injury update.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who played 67 minutes in Chelsea’s 5-0 loss to Arsenal, is expected to be available for the Copa America in June and July.
Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica for a record fee last year, has not been able to bring success to the club, which has had a disappointing season under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
Despite significant investments in transfers, Chelsea has struggled under the new ownership, experiencing its 11th loss of the season against Arsenal.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino’s hopes of qualifying for Europe have been further challenged by the team’s recent performance.
Fernandez, a key player for Argentina, aims to help his country win back-to-back Copa America titles, following their triumph in 2021.
