The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has refuted allegations that it orchestrated a raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, describing the incident as either staged or the work of imposters.
This follows reports that on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, a group of individuals—some in military and police uniforms—stormed Mr. Ofori-Atta’s home in Cantonments. According to eyewitness accounts, about 12 persons, including five in military attire, one in a police uniform, and others in plain clothes, were seen at the residence while some family members, including his wife, were present.
However, speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng dismissed any involvement by his office, stating:
“Mr. Ofori-Atta, the OSP did not raid your house on Tuesday, 11th February 2025, or on any other day. Mr. Ofori-Atta, the OSP did not cause any persons, however, uniformed or bedecked, to raid your house on Tuesday, 11th February 2025, or on any other day. Mr. Ofori-Atta, that could not have been the OSP, and that is not our style.”
Mr. Agyebeng further suggested that the supposed raid was a calculated attempt to discredit the OSP and obstruct its ongoing corruption investigations into the former finance minister.
“Our intelligence points us to state that the purported raid of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s residence was staged or, at best, an imposter action in an attempt to cause disfavor for the OSP and to derail the investigation. The OSP is never deterred by such occurrences, and the investigations will continue as prescribed by law.”
The clarification from the OSP comes amid its probe into allegations of financial loss to the state involving Mr. Ofori-Atta. The investigations focus on several dealings, including:
- A contractual agreement between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority for revenue assurance in the petroleum and minerals sectors.
- The termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited and Beijing Xhao Chen Technology BXC for network improvements and loss reduction.
- Procurement and financial activities related to the National Cathedral project.
- A contract initially initiated by the Ministry for Special Development Initiative and later handled by the Ministry of Health for the purchase, maintenance, and after-sales service of 307 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter ambulances for the National Ambulance Service.
- The disbursement and utilization of funds from the Ghana Revenue Authority’s tax refund account.
Despite these ongoing investigations, the OSP maintains that it has not taken any unlawful action against the former minister and remains focused on carrying out its mandate in accordance with the law.
