Results of Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, 2 others to be recollated over unlawful declaration – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to re-collate parliamentary results for the Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central constituencies, citing violations of electoral procedures and unlawful declarations.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Friday, Deputy EC Chair for Operations, Samuel Tettey, explained that the results in these areas were declared under duress due to disruptions caused by party supporters at collation centres.

“The re-collation in the constituencies of Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central did not follow the laid-down processes enshrined in CI 127,” Mr. Tettey stated.

He revealed that EC officials were threatened and forced to declare results in favor of certain candidates, compromising the integrity of the process. “In all four instances, EC officials were threatened and compelled to declare winners without adhering to the required procedures. These collation and declarations are, therefore, illegal and cannot be upheld by the Commission,” he added.

The parliamentary candidates previously declared winners in the affected constituencies include Faustina Elikplim Akurugu (Dome Kwabenya), Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq (Okaikwei Central), Ewurabena Aubynn (Ablekuma North), and Ebi Bright (Tema Central), all of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr. Tettey further noted that the EC has successfully completed re-collation in Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North, while processes are pending in Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, and Techiman South.

He assured the public of the EC’s commitment to resolving these irregularities through a transparent and lawful collation process, urging stakeholders to remain calm as the Commission works in accordance with electoral laws.
