Over 100 US-imported weapons at Tema Port seized by Customs Division

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority has intercepted over 100 weapons, including 53 pistols, 65 rounds of ammunition, 74 magazines, and a pistol holster, at the Golden Jubilee Terminal in Tema Port.

The discovery was made on Friday, November 15, during a routine examination. The weapons, concealed in three suitcases, prompted the Customs Examination team to involve the Intelligence and Investigation Unit as well as the Preventive Unit of the Customs Division.

Commissioner Brigadier Zibrim Ayorrogo confirmed the interception on Monday, November 18, noting that the items were reportedly imported from the United States.

The agent and the consignee connected to the smuggling attempt have been arrested and are currently in police custody at the Marine and Railway Police Station in Tema for further investigation.

The importation of weapons without proper authorization contravenes Section 138 of the Customs Act 2015 (ACT 891), which mandates individuals to secure a license and permit from the Ministry of Interior before importing firearms into Ghana.
