Vybz Kartel set to visit Ghana

Adidja Palmer, popularly known as Vybz Kartel, plans to visit Ghana once he fully recovers from his current health issues.

The Jamaican dancehall star has expressed feelings of homesickness, although details about his health remain largely private.

In a recent interaction with a female Ghanaian doctor, Kartel stated, “I will be coming soon.” This message was shared on the X platform (formerly Twitter), following his recent release from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in downtown Kingston.

His release came after the Court of Appeal ruled against retrying him and his co-accused for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.

Kartel also confirmed plans for a comeback concert later this year, responding to the outcry from his fans. “I’ve heard the cries of my fans for a comeback concert, and we’re making it happen,” he said, indicating that preparations are already underway for the event, which is expected to take place before the year’s end.

While it remains uncertain if Ghana will host this highly anticipated concert, fans are hopeful for a star-studded lineup featuring dancehall artists such as Samini, Stonebwoy, and Shatta Wale. However, the participation of Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale could be complicated due to a police bond preventing the two rivals from performing together at the same venue.

This restriction follows an incident at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, where a gun was drawn during a confrontation between the two artists. Stonebwoy faced charges for offensive conduct and displaying a firearm without permission, while Shatta Wale was charged with similar offenses.

Despite these complications, many fans are eager for a Kartel concert after a decade-long absence. Kartel, along with Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John, was convicted in 2014 for the 2011 murder of Williams. Although their convictions were upheld by the local Court of Appeal in 2020, the case was taken to the UK-based Privy Council, which overturned the murder convictions on March 14, 2024, due to juror misconduct. The case has since been remitted to the Jamaica Court of Appeal to determine whether a retrial will occur.
