The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, is set to begin maintenance work on the Legon-Madina overpass, commonly referred to as the Atomic Bridge, as part of efforts to enhance road safety and maintain infrastructure.
The 21-day project, which will focus on repairing the expansion joints of the bridge, is scheduled to start at 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2024, and is expected to be completed by Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
The expansion joints on the Atomic Junction Flyover, which connects Adenta and Madina to Legon via the N4 highway, have become damaged, leading to discomfort and safety concerns for motorists using this stretch.
The GHA has emphasized the urgency of the project to prevent further deterioration, as the overpass is vital for the smooth flow of traffic between Legon and Madina. The maintenance work is expected to extend the bridge’s lifespan and improve safety for the thousands of commuters who rely on it daily.
During the renovation period, traffic disruptions are anticipated, and the GHA has implemented a traffic management system to minimize congestion. Motorists are advised to follow the new traffic regulations closely to avoid unnecessary delays.
Additionally, drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes to reduce the burden on the overpass while the repairs are ongoing. The GHA has reassured the public that measures are in place to limit the inconvenience to road users during this period.
In a statement, the GHA also urged the public to reach out to its Public Affairs Division with any questions or concerns related to the project, ensuring that citizens remain well-informed throughout the maintenance process.
