Ghana’s passport delivery reform has recorded a major breakthrough, with 8,463 chip-embedded passports successfully reaching their rightful owners nationwide.
This update was shared by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who cited data from the Passport Head Office in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on May 17.
“Mahama’s government is here to serve you diligently, and to keep our pledges to you,” the minister noted, expressing his delight at the development.
An impressive 8,463 Ghanaians have conveniently received their new chip-embedded passports across the country via courier without paying extra charges since our April 28, 2025 Reset Passport Reforms.
That’s according to official data from the Passport Head Office.

The chip-embedded passport initiative, launched to improve document security and meet global aviation standards, began its first round of distribution last week. On May 9, Mr. Ablakwa personally joined a Ghana Post delivery team to hand over passports to applicants at their listed addresses.
During the exercise, he used the opportunity to guide recipients on how to properly care for the new chip-embedded documents.
The passports, which were designed with cutting-edge features, are delivered in tamper-evident packaging to protect their integrity during transit.
The rollout is being driven by Biometric Travel Solutions, with Troskit and Ghana Post handling delivery logistics under a 24-hour service model. The Ministry has also announced that applicants with unresolved address issues can pick up their passports from designated Ghana Post branches at no extra cost.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these steps are part of a broader commitment to ensuring secure and efficient passport delivery services to all Ghanaians.
