Manchester United has announced that manager Erik ten Hag has signed a contract extension with the club, keeping him in charge until 2026.
The Dutchman, who joined United from Ajax in 2022, was initially contracted until 2025.
In his two years at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag has already made a significant impact, guiding the team to two trophies and marking a period of progression for the club.
“I am very pleased to have reached agreement with the club to continue working together,” said Erik ten Hag, reflecting on his tenure. “Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined.”
Under ten Hag’s leadership, Manchester United secured a third-place finish in the Premier League in his first season, ending a six-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup with a victory over Newcastle.
However, the Dutchman faced challenges in his second season, with Manchester United finishing eighth in the Premier League and exiting the Champions League group stages. Despite these setbacks, a crucial 2-1 victory against Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May ensured ten Hag’s tenure continued.
“We must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead,” emphasized ten Hag, acknowledging the ongoing challenges and ambitions for the club.
The contract extension signals Manchester United’s commitment to continuity and stability under Erik ten Hag’s leadership, aiming to build on recent successes and further strengthen the club’s position in domestic and European competitions.
