The Central Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the withdrawal of Nurein Shiabu Migyimah as the party’s Assin Central Parliamentary Candidate.
This move comes “on moral grounds” following complaints filed against Migyimah, which prompted exhaustive investigations and deliberations by the NDC’s Central Regional Functional Executive Committee.
In a formal statement issued to the Assin Central Chairman of the NDC, the Regional Functional Executive Committee conveyed the decision to withdraw Migyimah’s candidature with immediate effect. Additionally, Migyimah has been suspended from the party for six months pending further review and adjudication by the Regional Disciplinary Committee.
The letter serves as official notification of Migyimah’s suspension, which will remain in force until the disciplinary committee reaches a final decision on the matter.
The NDC did not specify the exact nature of Migyimah’s alleged offenses but referred broadly to “immoral acts and anti-party conduct” that were considered during the committee’s deliberations.
The Assin Central constituency, currently represented by the New Patriotic Party’s Kennedy Agyapong, has been a closely contested seat in recent elections. In the previous election, Nurein Shiabu Migyimah secured 14,747 votes, constituting 42.74% of the total votes cast, while Kennedy Agyapong garnered 19,754 votes, representing 57.26%.
