Ghanaian actor and popular skit maker Ebenezer Akwasi Antwi, widely known as Dr Likee, recently shared a remarkable story about his early success on YouTube, thanks to the assistance of fellow YouTuber Wode Maya.
In an interview with Emelia Brobbey, Dr Likee revealed that his initial venture into YouTube proved unexpectedly lucrative, netting him a substantial $20,000 (equivalent to GH¢304,000).
Dr Likee recounted how Wode Maya played a pivotal role in this financial windfall. Maya sent him a document via WhatsApp and instructed him to take it to the bank without providing much explanation.
Uncertain but curious, Dr Likee followed Maya’s instructions and presented the document at the bank, where he was handed $20,000 in cash. The suddenness and magnitude of the amount left him initially bewildered and suspicious.
“I was shocked at first because I didn’t know why he had given me the money, I even thought it was a trap. By the time I got home and counted the money, it was in the region of $20,000,” Dr Likee recalled in the interview.
After realizing the legitimacy of the earnings, Dr Likee promptly reached out to Wode Maya to express his profound gratitude. Maya, known for his successful YouTube channel focused on African stories and travel, encouraged Dr Likee to ignore detractors and continue creating engaging skits. Maya assured him that consistent effort in producing quality content would lead to further financial rewards.
“That was when I called Wode Maya to thank him. He advised me not to listen to messages from people discouraging me and to focus on making skits, that if I do it well, it will be profitable for me,” Dr Likee affirmed.
