Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School has made an impressive comeback to the nationals of the National Science and Math Quiz (NSMQ) after a six-year absence.
The school, which last appeared at the national competition in 2017, demonstrated their renewed vigor and determination at the Central Regional Qualifiers held at the Center for National Culture auditorium on Saturday.
The ladies from Saltpond secured their spot at the nationals by triumphing over three other schools in a fiercely contested regional qualifier.
In the first round, Mfantsiman Girls took a narrow lead with 16 points, just ahead of Abakrampa Senior High School, which scored 15 points.
However, they extended their lead significantly in the second round, amassing 29 points and ultimately winning the contest with a comfortable total of 47 points.
Abakrampa SHS finished in second place with 25 points, followed by T.I. Amass, Ekumfi, which scored 12 points. Twifo Hemang Senior High Technical School trailed with just 2 points, securing the fourth position.
Mfantsiman Girls’ victory marks a significant milestone as they aim to restore their former glory at the national level of the NSMQ.
The school reached the finals in 2013, where they placed third behind Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC, Legon) and the eventual winners, St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School.
Before competing on the national stage, Mfantsiman Girls will participate in the GOIL PLC Regional Championship, where they hope to be crowned champions of the Central Region.
This upcoming contest provides another platform for the team to showcase their academic prowess and build momentum heading into the national competition.
The resurgence of Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School in the NSMQ is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and faculty. Their successful qualification has not only reignited school spirit but also positioned them as strong contenders in the forthcoming national competition.
With their eyes set on reclaiming their status as one of the top schools in the NSMQ, Mfantsiman Girls are determined to make a significant impact and bring honor to their school and the Central Region.
As they prepare for the challenges ahead, their recent victory serves as a powerful reminder of their potential and the legacy they aim to uphold.
