Osman Ayariga, the Deputy National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that Ghanaian youth will not remain passive while the Akufo-Addo administration attempts to seize control of state assets.
Mr Ayariga emphasized that the youth are ready to actively oppose any such actions, which he believes are against their collective interests.
Ayariga criticized the current government for its alleged failure to protect the state’s finances, accusing them of depleting the treasury instead.
“We’ll allow people who promised to protect the purse to steal the purse and all its contents in it. Where does this end? This Akufo-Addo wants to take over everything from this country and amass it for themselves, and the youth of the country will not sit down and allow it to continue,” he asserted during a media interview.
He called on all citizens to unite in opposition to any moves detrimental to Ghana’s welfare, urging them to stand firm for the greater good of the nation.
Mr Ayariga’s remarks come amidst controversy surrounding the sale of certain hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Rock City Limited, a company owned by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
The issue has gained significant attention following a recent protest led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu.
Mr Ablakwa and other critics have voiced concerns over the transparency and fairness of the transaction, which they argue benefits the political elite at the expense of the public.
Mr Ayariga’s comments highlight the growing discontent among opposition members and the youth, who feel that the current administration is prioritizing personal gain over national interest.
