Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya East, has alleged that her opponent, Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson, who represents the New Patriotic Party (NPP) brandished a gun at her on four separate occasions.
During an interview on Point Blank on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Okunor claimed these incidents took place during the 2019 and 2020 elections.
Okunor stated that despite filing several complaints with the police, no concrete action has been taken against the current MP for the constituency, Hawa Koomson. To protect herself from potential danger, Okunor disclosed that she purchased a gun for self-defense.

“There is the need for me to do that because I can best protect myself and not any other person against Hawa Koomson.”
“When we go back into the 2019-2020 elections, Hawa Koomson pulled a gun on me on four different occasions. No arrest was done, no interrogations, no investigations, nothing. The case just died. And since the police haven’t provided any form of protection for me,” she stated.
Recently, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, along with Mustapha Mohammed and Abdul Aziz Musah, was apprehended by the police at Ofaakor near Kasoa in the Central Region. They were arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm following a violent altercation at the Electoral Commission’s office in Kasoa.
During the altercation, Ato Koomson, the son of MP Mavis Hawa Koomson, sustained injuries after being stabbed in the chest. The police detained the suspects while they were onboard a Honda CRV saloon car with registration number GX-2044-19, where a pump-action gun with four rounds of ammunition was discovered.
Despite the circumstances surrounding her arrest, Ms. Okunor has denied any involvement in the violent incident at Kasoa and maintained her innocence regarding the possession of the firearm.
