After a delay caused by deadly flooding, several schools in Kenya are now reopening, with police and transport officials deployed to ensure students’ safe return to class.
However, over 1,600 schools may remain closed due to ongoing floods, according to authorities.
Muslim leaders have voiced concerns about student safety and are urging close monitoring of the situation. They are also calling on drivers to exercise vigilance on flood-damaged roads.
The floods have caused significant damage, including to several schools, and have resulted in more than 250 fatalities across Kenya. The start of the term, originally scheduled for 29 April, was postponed due to the flooding.
