Thiago Silva, the Brazilian defensive stalwart, has announced his departure from Chelsea after a memorable four-year stint at Stamford Bridge.
The 39-year-old joined the Blues as a free agent in 2020, leaving Paris Saint-Germain after the expiration of his contract.
In a heartfelt message to the club’s official website, Silva expressed his deep connection to Chelsea, highlighting the pride he feels in being a part of the Chelsea family. He emphasized his gratitude for the opportunity to play for the club and spoke of his hope that his sons, who also play for Chelsea, can continue their careers at the club.
Silva reflected on his time at Chelsea, noting that while everything has a beginning, middle, and end, this departure is not a definitive end. He expressed his desire to leave the door open for a return in the future, possibly in another role.
The Brazilian defender also touched on the special bond he formed with Chelsea fans, particularly after they returned to the stadium following the pandemic. He acknowledged the support he received from the club and his teammates, crediting former manager Frank Lampard for helping him integrate into the team.
Silva’s departure marks the end of a dream spell at Chelsea, where he achieved great success, including winning the Champions League. He now intends to return to his boyhood club, Fluminense, to end his career where it all began.
Four years, countless memories.
